Potion Rush is a tile-matching game that provides hours of game play over 200 unique levels. The player is a witch's apprentice responsible for brewing potions. They drag and reposition colorful ingredients in rows on the game board until they've matched three or more items. With each match, they collect the ingredients at the bottom of the board.

The game presents the player with instructions from the start. The player can use a mouse, keypad or fingertip to tap and drag an item into a position that aligns it with two or more similar items to create matches. As the items disappear from the board, an image of each item and a number count appears at the bottom of the board to show them their progress at collecting the potion-brewing ingredients. New items also drop down into position from the top of the board. The player unlocks items, creates potions and breaks spells the more they match items on the board.

The game tells the player how many moves they have left in a round and keeps score at the bottom of the board above the potion-making ingredients. When the player collects enough of a certain ingredient, a green checkmark appears on top of it. Once they have all of the necessary ingredients, a character appears on the screen with the words "Potion Created."

As they progress through each level, the player is taken to new worlds to explore different potion ingredients. In each world, they must travel to different towns on a map and play match item games until they complete the level and leave that world.
